Good morning all! If you missed our 2nd quarter meeting last night, don’t fret, here is a recap of the fun we had! Thank you to Martha Santus and Holmes Memorial Chapel for being our sponsor for the evening!
We heard three marvelous presentations, and in between, our game master Suzanne Gorgas brought the fun! If you want to see what we did, head over to our Facebook page and watch our live videos from the evening.
First, we heard from Susan Brooks who spoke on behalf of the Carlisle Elementary & Middle School. They have been working really hard on raising money to update their library! They have raised $20,000 themselves and the school was able to get them a matching $20,000, but they still have some items that they need including a new circulation desk, comfy chairs, lounge furniture, shelving and they would really like to have a smart board as the cherry on top!
Next, Nancy Tomey spoke for the Community Kitchen, a program through the First Presbyterian Church. The Community Kitchen serves a meal once a week, on Thursday, and sometimes feeds up to 65 people a week! They run on donations ONLY and they operate with only volunteers. They don’t ask questions of anyone that shows up for a meal, they feed anyone that comes through the door, no questions asked.
Our last presentation for the evening was Michele Smith for the Sullivan County Salvation Army. The Salvation Army strives to identify needs in the community and then determine how to serve them. In Sullivan County, the need is most often with utilities and groceries, so the Salvation Army helps many families there. They also help with a lot of child needs including a back to school event where they provide shoes for every child that attends, and the Coats-For-Kids program where kids pick a coat color and the SA purchases coats for children. In addition to the many programs that the Salvation Army provides, they also assist with emergency situations in the county.

We included this information about the 100 Women Who Care endowment (where your membership dues go) at the meeting, this endowment will start granting out to nonprofit organizations this year! This endowment is another way that your membership is helping Sullivan County!
