Community Foundation Launches ‘Help Sullivan Recover’ in Wake of Devastation

With extensive damage in Sullivan County from the recent devastating storms, the Wabash Valley Community Foundation has launched an ongoing emergency and disaster relief fund to help support recovery and relief efforts in Sullivan County.

The donation fund provides an avenue for those wishing to contribute and is set to prioritize immediate and long-term recovery and relief efforts for those impacted by the storms in Sullivan County.

“The recent storms have deeply impacted our Sullivan County community,” said Beth Tevlin, President & CEO of the Wabash Valley Community Foundation. “Our local volunteers are assisting us as we partner with local nonprofit agencies, school corporation and local government to assess the situation. Through the ‘Help Sullivan Recover’ Fund, we will collect dollars to distribute to recovery and relief efforts in Sullivan County.”

“The Community Foundation will be in close communication with our nonprofit colleagues to ensure the funds go to relief and recovery efforts for our neighbors most affected,” said Ally Orwig, Chair of the Sullivan County Services Committee. “This will allow our Committee to thoughtfully determine criteria for distribution by listening to our nonprofit partners and coordinating with local government and funders.”

The fund’s launch comes as a line of devastating storms tracked across the Midwest the evening of March 31, producing tornados and excessive winds. Initial reports by emergency responders suggest over 200 structures in the County have received significant damage, with 150 of those being within Sullivan city limits.

“We are overwhelmed with the outpouring of support. We appreciate every contribution and so many individuals have reached out offering support in many ways,” said Clint Lamb, Mayor of the City of Sullivan. “We are grateful to the Wabash Valley Community Foundation for providing this as an avenue of support. We have a road to recovery, and any donations will be used to support those in need as we build back stronger.”
