Community Foundation Scholarships
The Wabash Valley Community Foundation believes higher education is the key to future success for individuals and our communities. The Community Foundation honors the area’s youth for their academic success and their community involvement through our scholarship awards. We assist dozens of students each year as they strive to attain their educational goals. Through our application process, students have access to many different scholarships.
Unless otherwise indicated, selection of scholarship recipients will be based upon:
- 50% school activities, work experience, community service, and essays
- 20% academic achievement
- 20% financial need
- 10% other circumstances
The Community Foundation offers numerous scholarship opportunities for adult students, current high school graduates, full-time, part-time, traditional and non-traditional students. Community Foundation Scholarships can only be used for tuition and academic fees (scholarships are not available for room and board).
Lilly Endowment Community Scholarships
The Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship is designed to help raise the level of educational attainment in Indiana and to increase the ability of Indiana’s community foundations to offer scholarships to students. Scholarship Committee members in Clay, Sullivan and Vigo counties will select four Lilly Endowment Community Scholars per year: one in Clay, one in Sullivan and two in Vigo. This number is based upon Lilly Endowment guidelines and the population figures for the Wabash Valley Community Foundation’s service areas.
The program will provide scholarships for full tuition, required fees, and a special allocation of up to $900 per year for required books and equipment for four years of undergraduate study on a full-time basis, leading to a baccalaureate degree at any Indiana public or private college or university accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. The recipients of these prestigious awards will be known as Lilly Endowment Community Scholars.
The following are dates on which Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship interviews will be held in fall 2023. Please note there will be NO ALTERNATE DATES made available.

Other Scholarship Opportunities
The following scholarship opportunities have separate deadlines that do not adhere to the scholarship application deadline for the 2023-2024 Academic Year.
The Catherine Elizabeth Grimes Memorial Fund was established at the Wabash Valley Community Foundation in support of a scholarship to benefit outstanding female student athletes at Terre Haute North Vigo High School who embody the spirit and determination with which Cathy lived her life.
The Jenna Kay Perrelle Memorial Fund was established at the Wabash Valley Community Foundation in support of a scholarship to benefit outstanding student athletes at Terre Haute South Vigo High School who embody the spirit, character, and heart with which Jenna lived her life.
If you are a resident of Sullivan County, you may be eligible for the Medical Education Scholarships. These opportunities are available for current medical students who have graduated from a Sullivan County high school; or are residents of Sullivan County; or who intend to practice medicine in Sullivan County.
If you are a resident of Sullivan County, you may be eligible for funding from the Job and Career Fund. For those needing financial assistance, this fund can assist with registration fees, books, tuition, skill enhancement courses, GED expenses, trade school or vocational school or a two year college program. Funding ranges from $50 to $500.
This award shall provide post-secondary educational scholarships payable to any accredited institution of higher education for the benefit of residents of the 7th Congressional District of Indiana as represented by Mr. John Myers during his 30 years of service as the United States Representative for the 7th District of Indiana.
