In 2012, Terre Haute South High School graduate Sarah Senseman received the Kimberley Jeanne Fowler Wulf Scholarship for Catholic Education from the Wabash Valley Community Foundation. Though the scholarship did not completely cover the cost of tuition, it certainly helped ease the financial burden when she enrolled at Notre Dame to major in economics and political science.

“Receiving the Kimberley Jeanne Fowler Wulf Scholarship meant a lot in that it showed how much you can help someone, even if you do not necessarily know them,” she explained. “You don’t have to know someone to make a difference in their life.”

During her senior year at Notre Dame, Sarah started interviewing with a consulting company founded by a former Terre Haute resident and Notre Dame graduate. Upon her graduation in 2016, she accepted the job offer and made the move to Washington, D.C., to begin her career in government consulting.

Though she has remained involved with Notre Dame through its alumni chapter, she was determined to find a way to connect her hometown and her beloved alma mater.

“I was fortunate to receive a scholarship,” said Sarah. “Notre Dame is a great school and I was drawn to the sense of family, belonging and community. No matter who you are or where you’re from, you find a place of belonging. I wanted to encourage students at Terre Haute South to apply to Notre Dame and find that place of belonging, but there wasn’t any avenue that allowed me to do that [at Notre Dame].”

In 2017, Sarah contacted the Wabash Valley Community Foundation and created the TH 2 ND Fund. The Fund will provide annual scholarships for Vigo County students to attend Notre Dame.

Sarah hopes to attract students who have big aspirations but also want to pursue careers in areas that matter.

“With TH 2 ND, one thing I envisioned is going back to Terre Haute South and trying to get students to apply. I wanted to make the [Fund] name casual and informal so they don’t underestimate their abilities. Dream big so you can do good work, help people and help community.”

Thanks to the TH 2 ND Fund, Sarah has found a way to give back and connect her hometown and alma mater by providing scholarships for students so that they, too, may give back to Terre Haute.

Eligibility requires that:

• You are a graduating from a Terre Haute high school.
• You are attending the University of Notre Dame.
