Jeffery Alan Cole was born on February 26, 1985. He was a Hymera native. Jeffery was an outstanding athlete that excelled in baseball, track, and basketball. He was very well liked by his classmates. One day, Jeffery and his friends were playing with a handgun. Jeffery tragically died at the age of 14 from a gunshot wound to his back.

The purpose of this fund is to aid others in furthering their education while also advocating for gun safety. This scholarship is for graduates of North Central High School. The recipient of this award must show certification of completion of  the Indiana Hunter’s Education course and must be enrolled full-time or part-time to an institution of higher education.

Eligibility requires that:

• You have taken and passed the Indiana Hunter’s Education course and certification; you must provide a certificate demonstrating the successful completion.
• You are graduating or have graduated from North Central High School in Sullivan County; preference will be given to a graduating senior.
• You demonstrate financial need.
