Diane K. Marheine Memorial Scholarship Fund

Diane Marheine was born in Evansville, Indiana on April 8, 1951. As she was passionate about teaching, Diane became a teacher and spent most of her teaching career in a kindergarten classroom at Shelburn Elementary. She married Bruce Marheine on June 29, 1974 and together they had two children, Tamara and Richard.

Besides teaching, Diane’s other passion was being active in the community. She was involved with Sullivan County 4-H, Our Father’s Arms, Tri-Kappa and First Presbyterian Church of Sullivan. Diane consistently volunteered for the church’s Community Kitchen and helped provide free meals each Thursday. She also enjoyed singing in the church choir. Members of the church and choir fondly remember Diane as being someone who was always there to help in any time of need. Diane loved berry picking and was known for her homemade jams and jellies. She loved nature and especially enjoyed fishing with her three grandsons.

In 2014, Diane had been teaching 34 years and decided it was time to retire. Sadly, Diane passed away the following year after fighting a five year battle with ovarian cancer. Her husband, Bruce, set up this scholarship in her memory to help Sullivan County students who are receiving a degree in elementary education.

Eligibility requires that:

  • You are a Resident of Sullivan County Indiana
