Ambrose and Miriam Rubey Scholarship Fund

Miriam Combs Rubey graduated from Indiana University with a degree in nursing in 1928. She completed her residency at Massachusetts General Hospital. Miriam was involved in her community and was a member of the Sisterhood of PEO, Covenant Cooperative Presbyterian Church at Monroe, Indiana University Alumni Association and Alpha Omicron Pi sorority.  She passed away on September 13, 1993.

Ambrose Harrison Rubey also attended Indiana University, but left his senior year to marry Miriam. They had four children, and at the time of their deaths, had eight grandchildren. Ambrose passed away March 15, 1989.

Although none of the Rubey children attended Indiana University, their sons, Charles and Andrew Rubey, established the Ambrose and Miriam Rubey Scholarship Fund in 1993 as a way to honor their parents.

The purpose of the fund is to provide scholarships to “deserving” students attending Indiana University. At least 15 students from the Wabash Valley have received a scholarship from the Ambrose and Miriam Rubey Scholarship Fund. Because this is an endowed fund, many more scholarships will be awarded in the future.

Eligibility requires that:

  • You will attend Indiana University.
  • You demonstrate academic achievement, activities and work experience.
  • You demonstrate financial need.
  • You are a graduate of a Vigo County high school.
