Did you miss the second quarter meeting? We had three great presentations and we made a BIG change to our meeting format for the September 26th meeting! Let’s fill you in!

Our emcees for the evening explained that the Steering Committee has been researching other men’s Giving Circles around the globe and in an attempt to keep the members that we do have and attract new members, they have polled the current members and decided to make a few changes to the format of the meetings going forward. At the end of this meeting, the members nominated organizations for the September 26th meeting, and those presentations will be given by the organizations instead of the members. Those organizations will be listed at the end of this post, so stay tuned!
First, member Dave Piker introduced Cinda Taylor, former Principal of Terre Town elementary school who spoke on behalf of the Vigo County Education Foundation. Being a part of the school corporation for 45 years, Cinda spoke firsthand about the importance of the Foundation and the direct impact that the grant funding has on the students at Terre Town where 78% of the children live in poverty.
Next, member Cary Albin introduced Jess Berryhill from Mount Pleasant Church who spoke about an annual event called the Tim Tebow Night to Shine. The Night to Shine gives special needs adults and children one magical night to get dressed up, walk the red carpet like movie stars complete with paparazzi, eat, dance, take a limo party bus and at the pinnacle of the night every single attendee is crowned King/Queen. The event has 300 volunteers that are all given background checks prior to the event and specially trained.
Our last presentation for the evening. Mr. Griffin spoke about his son Dale Griffin who gave his life serving in the US Army in Afghanistan in 2009. In honor of his son, a mountain bike enthusiast, the Griffin family along with he Vigo County Parks Department started the Griffin Bike Park Project. The Griffin Bike Park has quickly grown and resulted in national attention, awards and 40,000 visitors over the past 12 months.With these funds, Griffin Bike Park would like to build restrooms and showers.

After the voting was complete, we accepted nominations for the September 26th meeting, and received ELEVEN separate nominations!! We drew three and the three presentations in September will be:
- St. Joseph’s Utility Assistance Program
- Gibault
- West Vigo Community Center
