How does it work?

We’re a group dedicated to making a positive impact in our community. Individually, each member donates $500 per year to support worthy nonprofit groups in the community (Vigo County offers a reduced membership of $250/year if you are 40 years of age or younger).

Who can join?

The group is open to everyone – the more who get involved, the greater the impact will be!

How often does the group meet?

The groups meet four times a year, see each group’s individual page for meeting dates and times.

How is the $500 used?

The first $100 is used to support an endowment fund in the Wabash Valley Community Foundation. All contributions to this fund are invested and the earnings are used to support programs and projects in each respective county.

The remaining $400 is used to support the four nonprofit organizations selected throughout the year ($100 at each meeting).

What organizations are eligible for funding?

To be eligible, the organization must be a 501(c)3 or governmental entity. Nonprofit organizations affiliated with religious organizations are also eligible as long as their services address a societal need and are not restricted based upon religious affiliation.

The organization must be proposed by a member of the giving circle. Only local organizations will be considered. Controversial and political nonprofits will not be considered.

What if I am not fond of the organization selected?

Each member commits to donating their quarterly pledges even if they are unable to attend the meetings or do not care for the selected nonprofit.

What if I cannot attend a meeting?

Members may send their check or money with a fellow member. This gives that member your voting proxy as well. Checks may also be sent to the Wabash Valley Community Foundation (200 South 8th Street, Terre Haute, IN 47807).  Members may also submit payments online.

Why should I join?

There are many wonderful benefits of joining a giving circle. First, you will have the opportunity to meet and interact with other leaders from our community. Secondly, you have the opportunity to advocate for a nonprofit that you care about and would like to see receive more funding. Most importantly, with very little commitment of time and a modest commitment of financial resources, members from your county can have a tremendous impact. For example, if the group gains 100 members, each meeting will result in a $10,000 donation to the selected nonprofit. The larger the group becomes, the more money will be donated to deserving agencies, projects and organizations. Be a part of making a difference in our community!
